Last month, MaryLou Jewelry had the opportunity to make a custom bracelet for a bouncing baby girl named Layla! The bracelet was composed of two cuban link chains connected to a nameplate that was laser engraved on site to ensure both precision and durability as the wearer grows overtime. Constructed with 14k gold, this bracelet is designed to stand the test of time as its wearer goes through life. Working on this custom piece was so enjoyable and shows how we continue to engage in cultural practices that are meant to adorn and protect our most precious and vulnerable loved ones.
The tradition of babies wearing jewelry dates back several millennia and can be seen across many cultures. Jewelry was meant to protect babies from evil spirits, ward off pessimistic energy, and adorn the baby in abundance that it would hopefully experience for a lifetime. This timeless piece symbolizes not just style, but a lasting connection to the past, present, and future. MaryLou’s mission statement embodies the importance of familial connection through jewelry and heirlooms. This project is directly aligned with why we were founded and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
